India: The Karnataka State government has granted an extension of two years to Shree Cement to establish its megacement plant at KodlaBenakanalli village, Karnataka State. Shree Cement was given permission to establish a 3Mt/yr cement plant at an investment of US241m in January 2010, apart from establishing a captive 150MW power plant.

Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA) is the apex body of large (1 million tonnes capacity per annum and more) cement manufacturers in India. It plays a catalytic role in bridging the gap between the government and the Indian Cement Industry towards shaping important policy matters in relation to cement.
At present, the Installed Capacity of Cement in India is 500 MTPA with production of 298 Million Tonnes per annum. Majority of the cement plants installed capacity (about 35%) is located in the states of south India.
India publishes data on production and capacity of cement in its Annual Report. As per Annual Report 201516, the total installed capacity of cement plants have been placed at million tonnes and the production of cement during 201516 was million tonnes.
